Although many mortgage servicing companies (the people you get your work from) have issued “generic” definitions of personal property and debris and even the value thereof, the laws describing those items vary from state to state and there is even a strong local influence.

Here’s the bottom line. Look at the contract you signed. Your signature is your testimony that you are a professional, know everything there is to know about the business and you also acknowledge that you are totally responsible for anything that goes wrong. Of course everyone knows most contractors sign the contract, most often without reading it, and go merrily on their way until the first subponea arrives. We are not trying to be rude or arrogant here; it’s just so important that you realize the responsibilities and the liabilities you assume in this business. Your understanding of that is what will keep you in the business.
Talk with legal counsel about this matter. Have access to legal counsel at all times. It is not an expense – it is another form of insurance.
